What qualifications and experiences prepare you for this role?
My preparation for the role of International Vice President is grounded in a long record of distinguished service at every level of Optimist International. As one of the first graduates of the Optimist Leadership Academy, I have been equipped with advanced leadership training that complements my extensive experience as a four time Distinguished Club President, two time Distinguished Lieutenant Governor, Distinguished Governor, and Honor Governor. My service on four International Committees has strengthened my ability to collaborate across regions and contribute to organizational strategy.
I have sponsored 73 new members and served as Builder of Excellence for 13 clubs—nine of which remain active—demonstrating my commitment to sustainable growth and strong leadership development. These achievements, combined with a steady, transparent, and optimistic leadership style, have prepared me to support districts, empower leaders, and advance the mission of Optimist International as International Vice President.
What are your top priorities?
A core priority is ensuring that every district and club has a sustainable leadership pipeline. This includes helping governors, lieutenant governors, and club presidents identify emerging leaders early, preparing them with the tools and mentorship they need, and promoting consistent leadership development practices across regions. Effective succession planning protects organizational stability and ensures that Optimist International continues to thrive long into the future.
An IVP plays a key role in cultivating the next generation of Optimist leaders. This means creating intentional opportunities for recognition, offering meaningful leadership pathways, and encouraging districts to invest in training and mentorship. By spotlighting rising leaders and giving them room to grow, the IVP helps build a culture where talent is nurtured and leadership excellence is celebrated.
Championing the JOOI program is essential to the long term vitality of the organization. An IVP should work closely with districts to strengthen JOOI visibility, support advisors, and encourage the formation of new clubs. Promoting JOOI not only empowers young people but also builds a natural bridge to future adult membership and leadership within Optimist International.
Providing guidance, resources, and encouragement to district leaders remains a central responsibility. This includes helping districts address challenges, sharing best practices, and fostering collaboration across regions to ensure clubs remain vibrant, service focused, and member centered.
An IVP helps ensure that the goals of the International Board, districts, and clubs remain aligned. Clear communication, transparency, and responsiveness help build trust and keep leaders connected to the broader mission of Optimist International.
How will you support and strengthen local Clubs, Districts and the Optimist International Organization?
Why should members vote for you?
Members should vote for me because I bring proven, distinguished leadership, a strong record of strengthening and growing clubs, and a deep commitment to developing future Optimist leaders. I helped organize the new JOOI District in the Atlantic Central region, demonstrating my dedication to youth leadership and the future of our organization. With a focus on transparency, practical support, and succession planning, I’m ready to serve with integrity and optimism to help every district succeed.
