Put Your Optimism on Display!

The second annual Club video contest asks Members to finish the sentence “the greatest thing about being an Optimist is…” There are hundreds of ways to answer and there are no wrong answers! Just film a short YouTube style video with a smartphone or handheld camera to show what is important to you and your Club.

This contest is sponsored by Optimist International, the Optimist International Foundation and the Canadian Children's Optimist Foundation. The grand prize is a $1,000 Club grant and all Clubs that submit a video are entered into a drawing for a $250 grant. All grants are generously funded by the Optimist International Foundation and the Canadian Children's Optimist Foundation.

The deadline for submissions is March 15. Entries will be judged based on original content, creativity, composition and the extent to which the topic question was answered. Start filming your entry today!


What is the Reel Optimism Contest?
It is the second annual video contest for Optimist Clubs and Members to represent their experience of being an Optimist in a creative and powerful way.

Topic: "The greatest thing about being an Optimist is..."

Who is eligible to participate? We encourage all Clubs to participate, but only Clubs in Canada, the United States and the Caribbean are eligible to receive a Club Grant.

How to Enter:

  1. Use the creativity of your Club Members and resources in your community to create a short, three minute or under, video finishing the sentence, "The greatest thing about being an Optimist is..."

  2. Upload your finished video to YouTube by March 15, 2014. Your video submission must include your Club name and the hashtag #ReelOptimism. Including this hashtag will make it easier for us to find your submission.

  3. Include a video description and "tags" for your video.

  4. After the video is uploaded, email the video link to reeloptimism@optimist.org.

Contest Dates:

    January 15, 2014 - March 15, 2014
    Members and Clubs submit videos on YouTube following the submission guidelines.


    May 1, 2014

    Finalists will be announced and voting will be opened to the public.


    May 15, 2014

    Public voting will end and winning Clubs will be notified.


    July 10-12, 2014

    Winning videos will be announced during the 2014 Optimist International Convention in Las Vegas and Clubs will be invited on stage to receive their Club Grant.

Contest Judging:

    Entries will be judged based on original content, creativity, composition and the extent to which the topic question was answered. We encourage all types of submissions!

Prizes:

    First Place
    $1,000 Club Grant

    Second Place

    $500 Club Grant

    Third Place

    $250 Club Grant

    All Clubs that submit a video will be automatically entered into a drawing to receive a $250 Club Grant.

Tips:

  1. Contact your local library, college or high school media class for help editing your video.

  2. Get as many of your Club Members involved as you can.

  3. Like our page on Facebook to catch updates and connect with others Optimists who are creating videos: www.facebook.com/reeloptimism

  4. Include footage of your Club events or projects to give the viewer a sense of the direct impact your Club has on the community.

Rules & Guidelines
By submitting an entry, you are agreeing to the YouTube Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. Entries which do not comply will be disqualified. All entries are property of Optimist International and can be reproduced. Multiple submissions are acceptable but Clubs may only receive one grant.


Club Grant Restrictions
For Clubs receiving a Club Grant, the restrictions for usage are as follows: A) the money will be given for a Club to use towards a Club project or event B) the Club must be an Adult Optimist Club in good standing, and C) the funds will be used for charitable, literary and educational purposes in accordance with the Optimist International mission.
