4th Annual Optimist Golf World Cup

The Optimist Junior Golf Program announces a team event that will be held in conjunction with the 2013 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. The Optimist Golf World Cup will be a one day, 18-hole, team competition featuring two-player teams representing their nations. Optimist Golf World Cup participants will consist of players who are also competing in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. This event is sure to generate extra excitement during THE OPTIMIST and it will be an honor for players to participate under their country’s flag.

2012 RESULTS


Location, Course and Tees
PGA National Resort & Spa
Palmer Golf Course

Boys 14-18 (Blue tees): 6,569 yards
Girls 14-18 and Boys 10-13 (White tees): 5,936 yards
Girls 10-13 (Red tees): 5,145 yards

Format & Divisions
- 18-hole tournament
- Two player team, best-ball format
- Teams may consist of two boys, two girls or one boy/one girl

- A sudden death playoff will be held for first place only

Team USA and Team Canada
There will be two teams from USA and Canada. Players for these teams will be selected by the Optimist Junior Golf Committee.  Selection will be based on a junior golfer’s past results in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships, Optimist International Tournament of Champions, national ranking and other tournament experience. Optimist Junior Golf will contact potential participants individually.

International Teams

National Federations/Associations will be invited to field teams for the event. Organizations that will receive automatic invitations are the following groups that already send designated golfers to the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships:

Team Argentina: Argentine Golf Association
Team Bermuda: Bermuda Junior Golf Association
Team Chile: Golf Juniors de Chile
Team China: China Junior Golf Club
Team Colombia: Colombian Golf Federation
Team Ecuador: Ecuadorian Golf Federation
Team Hong Kong: Hong Kong Golf Association
Team Mexico: Mexican Golf Federation
Team Puerto Rico: Puerto Rico Golf Association
Team South Africa: SA Kids Golf
Team Thailand: Thai Junior Golfer Guardian Association
Team Venezuela: Venezuelan Golf Federation

Other nations with golfers who are playing in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships may field a team provided they have at least two golfers representing their nation. International groups should download the 2013 World Cup Packet and Registration Form for details.
 
Entry Fee
A team entry fee of $220 will be charged for all teams. The entry fee will include a pairings breakfast, 18-holes of golf with cart, recognition items, and team awards. The entry fee will be payable to Optimist International and the entry deadline will be July 5, 2013.

National Federations/Associations will be encouraged to pay the team entry fee for their organization’s team.

Awards & Exemptions
The overall winners will be named the “2013 Optimist Golf World Cup Champions” and will receive the Optimist Golf World Cup trophy and individual awards. They will also be introduced and recognized at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, July 31.

Both participants of the winning team will also receive an exemption into the 2013 Optimist International Tournament of Champions  (November 9-10, 2013 at ChampionsGate Golf Club in ChampionsGate, Florida) and the 2014 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
