Inaugural Optimist Golf World Cup

Presented by Seminole Hard Rock Entertainment

The Optimist Junior Golf Program announces a new event that will be held in conjunction with the 2010 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. The Optimist Golf World Cup Presented by Seminole Hard Rock Entertainment will be a one day, 18-hole, team competition featuring two-player teams representing their nations. Optimist Golf World Cup participants will consist of players who are also competing in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. This new event is sure to generate extra excitement during THE OPTIMIST and it will be an honor for players to participate under their country’s flag.

Location & Course

- PGA National Resort & Spa

- Champion Course at PGA National

- Boys tees: 6,900 yards

- Girls tees: 6,000 yards

 

Format & Divisions

- 18-hole tournament

- Two player team, best-ball format.

- Teams may consist of two boys, two girls or one boy/one girl

- A sudden death playoff will be held for first place only


Team USA and Team Canada

Team USA and Team Canada will be selected by the Optimist Junior Golf Committee. Selection will be based on a junior golfer’s past results in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. Optimist Junior Golf will contact potential participants individually.

 

International Teams

National Federations/Associations will be invited to field teams for the event. Organizations that will receive automatic invitations are the following groups that already send designated golfers in the 14-15 and 16-18 divisions to the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships:

 

Team Argentina – Argentina Golf Association

Team Chile – Golf Juniors de Chile

Team China – China Junior Golf Club

Team Colombia – Colombian Golf Federation

Team Mexico – Mexican Golf Federation

Team Puerto Rico – Puerto Rico Golf Association

Team Thailand – Thai Junior Golfer Guardian Association

Team Venezuela – Venezuela Golf Federation

 

If teams from other nations would like to participate, they will need to submit an application for consideration.

 

Entry Fee

A team entry fee of $220 will be charged for all teams. The entry fee will include 18-holes of golf with cart, recognition items, and an awards luncheon following play. The entry fee will be payable to Optimist International and the entry deadline will be July 15, 2010. National Federations/Associations will be encouraged to pay the team entry fee for their organization’s team.

 

Awards & Exemptions

The overall winners will be named the “2010 Optimist Golf World Cup Champions” and will receive the Optimist Golf World Cup trophy and individual awards. They will also be introduced and recognized at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, July 28.

 

Both participants of the winning team will also receive an exemption into the 2010 Optimist International Tournament of Champions (October 30-31, 2010 at Disney’s Palm Course at Walt Disney World, Florida) and the 2011 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships (July 21-31, 2011 at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida).
