The 2013 Optimist Tournament of Champions was recently held November 9-10, 2013, at ChampionsGate Golf Club in ChampionsGate, Florida. Top junior golfer’s age 11-18 competed. The tournament brought together some of the world’s most talented young competitors - many of whom possess the potential to become leading collegiate and professional players.
In the youngest boys’ 11-13 age division, Daniel Trasvina from Mexico topped the leaderboard with a 75-73. Florida’s Luke Gifford finished second with 73-80. Stewart Slayden from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida with a 77-77, took third place.
Annie Kim of Florida shot 72-77 to top of the girls' 11-13 division. Agustina Gomez Cisterna of Argentina took second place with75-76. New Hampshire’s Lauren Thibodeau shot 74-79, taking third.
In the boys' 14-15 division, in a sudden death playoff victory for Slovakia’s Tadeas Tetak with 71-70 against Jake Holt from Jupiter, Florida taking second place 73-68. Tying for third place with just one above the leaders with a 72-70 were Nate Menon from Wyomissing, Pennsylvania and Anthony Truong from Vietnam with a 72-70.
For the Girls 14-18 division, Laura Sojo from Colombia with two under par with a 73-69. Second place with even par 71-73 was Isidora Quevedo from Chili and third place went to Jacqueline Twitty from Chapin, South Carolina 75-73.
Florida’s Camilo Mexsen jumped ahead of round one leader Bryce Burke to take first place with a 70-69 (5-under par). Bryce Burke from South Africa ended the weekend in second place with (3-under par) 69-72 and last year’s champion Claudio Correa from Chile took third place with a 69-73.
