Age divisions for the 2013 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships
are as listed below. These age divisions are the same for all official
Optimist District qualifying tournaments.
BOYS
DIVISIONS
Boys 10-11
Golfers between the ages of 10 and 11 who will not celebrate their 12th birthday on or before July 29, 2013. Golfers who are nine years old as of July 29, 2013, may "play up" into the Boys 10-11 division.
Boys 12-13
Golfers between the ages of 12 and 13 who will not celebrate their 14th birthday on or before July 29, 2013.
Boys 14-15
Golfers between the ages of 14 and 15 who will not celebrate their 16th birthday on or before July 29, 2013.
Boys 16-18
Golfers between the ages of 16 and 18 who will not celebrate their 19th birthday on or before August 4, 2013. Golfers must currently be enrolled in high school or be a 2013 high school graduate.**
GIRLS
DIVISIONS
Girls 10-12
Golfers between the ages of 10 and 12 who will not celebrate their 13th birthday on or before July 29, 2013. Golfers who are nine years old as of July 29, 2013, may "play up" into the Girls 10-12 division.
Girls 13-14
Golfers between the ages of 13 and 14 who will not celebrate their 15th birthday on or before July 29, 2013.
Girls 15-18
Golfers between the ages of 15 and 18 who will not celebrate their 19th birthday on or before August 4, 2013. Golfers must currently be enrolled in high school or be a 2013 high school graduate.**
Playing Up
Golfers are permitted to "play up" one age division, but they must qualify in the higher division. Requests to play up 2 or 3 divisions require a special request. A golfer who intends to "play up" at the international championships must "play up" at all levels of qualifying. At large applicants and exempt golfers are permitted to apply to a higher division and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Verification of Age
District Chairs will verify the ages of players participating in qualifying events. Participants should be prepared to provide a copy of a birth certificate, driver’s license, baptismal record or passport as proof of age. Age verification will be required for all at-large applicants and exempt golfers. Golfers who qualify and register for the international championships will be required to submit a copy of their birth certificate, driver’s license, baptismal record or passport prior to competing in the international championships.
**Please
Note: a golfer who is still 18 years old on August 4, and who graduated high
school in 2013 or earlier, is also eligible provided he/she has not yet attended
college.
