Age divisions for the 2010 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships
are as listed below. These age division policies are the same for all
official Optimist District qualifying tournaments.
Boys & Girls 10-11*
Golfers between
the ages of 10 and 11 who will not celebrate their 12th birthday on or before
July 26, 2010. *NEW IN 2010 -- Golfers who are nine years old as of
July 26, 2010, may "play up" into the 10-11 division.
Boys & Girls
12-13
Golfers between the ages of 12 and 13 who will not celebrate their 14th birthday
on or before July 26, 2010.
Boys & Girls 14-15
Golfers between the ages of 14 and 15 who will not celebrate their 16th birthday
on or before July 26, 2010..
Boys & Girls 16-18
Golfers between the ages of 16 and 18 who will not celebrate their 19th birthday
on or before August 1, 2010. Golfers must currently be enrolled in high
school or be a 2010 high school graduate.
Playing Up
Golfers are permitted to "play up" one age division, but they must
qualify in the higher division. Requests to play up 2 or 3 divisions require
a special request. A golfer who intends to "play up" at the international
championships must "play up" at all levels of qualifying. At large
applicants and exempt golfers are permitted to apply to a higher division and
will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Verification of Age
District Chairs will verify the ages of players participating in qualifying
events. Participants should be prepared to provide a copy of a birth certificate,
baptismal record or passport as proof of age. Age verification will be
required for all at-large applicants and exempt golfers. Golfers who qualify
and register for the international championships will be required to submit
a copy of their birth certificate, baptismal record or passport prior to competing
in the international championships.
