What are your primary qualifications for this office?

As a North Carolina State employee for over 45 years and having worked in a university setting serving students, faculty, and administrators throughout my professional career has provided me with the insight, experience, abilities, and qualifications to serve as the Vice President for the Mid-Atlantic Region. In 2007-08, I served as President of the Optimist Club of Greenville. In 2011, I was elected Treasurer and currently serve as the Secretary-Treasurer as well as Membership Chair, Publicity Co-Chair, and Newsletter Editor of the Optimist Club of Greenville. Recognition and honors received at the local Club level include: Optimist of the Year, 2008, 2011, 2015, and Life Member, 2009.

For 2008-09, I was elected as Zone 3 Lt. Governor and Governor-Elect for the North Carolina East District. Since then, additional offices/honors for the North Carolina East District include:

  • Distinguished Governor, 2010-11
  • Distinguished Lt. Governor, Zone 3, 2011-12

  • Distinguished Candidate Qualifications Committee Chair, 2012

  • PGI Level 10, November 16, 2015
In addition to being Past-Governor, other District positions held or currently occupy include: Oratorical Chair, 2009-10; Candidate Qualifications Chair, 2011-12; Lt, Governor, Zone 3, 2011-12 and 2012-13; Convention Committee Chair and Leadership Development Chair, 2013-14; Club Services Chair, 2014-15; and Club Fitness Advisor, Finance Chair, and Lt. Governor for Zone 4, 2015-16.

Nominated and recipient of the Optimist International President’s Citation, August 31, 2015.

Why should a Club vote for you?

I will be a strong advocate for each Club/District in the Mid-Atlantic Region; possess strong organizational skills; good listener, people person, goal setter, and communicator; and willing to go the extra mile to assist others in setting and obtaining their goals and objectives..

What specific things will you do to help the Clubs and Districts in your Region?

First, I would meet with each District Governor to listen to their concerns/needs and get acquainted with their District. Second, I would work with each Governor to establish a plan of action surrounding Member recruitment, Member retention, building new Clubs, and projects to serve the youth in their community. Third, once plans of action are established and guidelines in place—encourage action to pursue identified goals. Follow up regularly with each District Governor to determine where they are, assess their activities, and see how they are progressing. Work with each District Governor to determine their outcomes/successes and develop strategies needed for continued success. In addition, I will lead by example and continue my efforts in recruiting new Members and work to help build new Clubs.

Anything else you would like to say to Clubs?

It would be an honor and privilege to serve as your next Vice President of the Mid-Atlantic Region. I am a dedicated and hardworking individual who will strive to help you, so together, we can provide more opportunities to serve and benefit the youth in your communities.
